final drawing

Thanks to the help in the design of Tobias Permin, the platform proposal got a final shape.
This form, that is illustrated in the drawing on the top, keeps the basic principles of the first idea of the project, making it more functional, considering the 3 days of building time we have a head.

INTRODUCTION

Some of the definitions for the concept of platform found in the Internet are:

-Party platform, a list of principles held by a political party.

-Platformism, in anarchist politics, the tradition of Nestor Makhno's Organizational Platform of the Libertarian Communists.

-Platform (European politics), an openly organized faction within a left-wing political party.

-Platform (art group), an interdisciplinary art group that researches the oil industry.

-Platform (theatre), a standard piece of theatrical scenery.

-Platform (economics), an intermediary between two or more sides of a market.

The term platform and the idea of it have been used in the Art world as an ambiguous definition to frame a set of works or ideas surrounding a determinate project. Most clear and known examples are the ones held by the project/show Documenta in Kassel, that produces diverse types of platforms prior and during the actual venue. Focused in creating a conceptual area of work, the idea of the general project is discussed and promoted in meetings on different dates and locations named platforms. Another example of the term used in Art is the current residence program “Platform” in Istanbul, Turkey, where artists from all over the world comes to work and share ideas for a determinate amount of time.

Platform has also been used as a sort of stage, where artists have shown performance pieces or where they have installed a body of work relating to a determinate context.

The project A Platform Proposal, Fluid Trust No Judgment, aims to attach some of the references introduced above to a work by to producing a sculptural area for interaction where exchange of ideas and display of activities will be the main focus.

The project will not be finished in the traditional way of form and handcraft, understanding as a finished product any sort of work that has been clearly defined and clearly installed. This will not be the case.

The project has been thought as an open field for exchange that is incomplete.

The reason why the project is presented on a face of process, more than a finished one, is to emphasize the fact that many of the things that will happen and will be exposed belongs to a wider range of activities, that are yet to be completed or discussed.

*A reference added to this project and the idea of working with the process as a product, came to take place due to the recent volcanic explosions in Iceland, where the majority of the airports in Europe came to experience an historical period of stand by, influencing economies and the life of thousands of travelers.

It seemed that everything came to a stage of pause, which forced governments and individuals to adapt to the situation.

Protocols had to be suspended and deadlines have to be rescheduled. How to deal with such situations and how we should adapt our own ideas regarding a project, a construction, a discussion, time and space and our expectations comes to play a big motivational role for this platform.

For all those reasons this platform proposal can be seen as an invitation to experience and work, or simply just be part of what has not been finished. Just as the thousands of persons in Europe that had no choice but to encounter themselves on a situation where things were on a stage of stand by, having to deal with what they were facing, developing other activities while their flights home were returning to normality. We are welcoming a contemporary state of Pompey

FORM

The form or structure of the platform will be initially designed to support different activities with in the frame of the fair.

The first idea is to create an ascendant area where stages will be proposed to the visitors on a physical way, however, while in used, the platform can alter the previously designed plan.

The structure should be placed on an area close to 25 m2.

There should be 3 floors. The first 2 floors will be made with a height close to 2.20 mt. The last flor, or top floor will remain open.

The material for the construction will be wood.

Because of the original idea of presenting the project as a proposal, or a work in progress, the stages will not be fully finished. Holes and awkward ways of transition between the floors are a possible consequence of the fast building process.

The first floor will be dedicated to gathering. It is a communal space. It is the base and therefore the biggest in dimension. All the possible activities will be hold here. Elements such as a ”fast kitchen” and benches will be the most visual elements.

Some activities that are planned will be presented as an idea to follow. Some of these ideas will be altered in the process of the making.

The second floor, or meditation floor, will be designed to provide a space for reflection. This floor will have some pillows and originally will remain partially open to the sealing of the exhibition hall.

The third floor is dedicated to rest and sleep. It suppose to be an extension of the second floor, but on a smaller scale, and will not have any element on display. This space is the smallest floor and will be open.

Some of the activities planned are:

Cooking hours

Meditation

DJ+Radio utopia

Sculpture workshop

Screenings
